Creatives for the Count

Dallas Design Jam: January 2020

Role: Designer

For the City of Dallas, our team was commissioned to create posters encouraging minority communities to participate in the 2020 United States Census. Each designer selected a specific community to reach, crafting messaging and visuals that spoke authentically to their audience.

Given my background in immigration reform and community engagement, I chose to focus on the Hispanic community. I wanted the message to feel empowering and inclusive—a reminder that every individual’s presence matters. The phrase “Vivimos aquí. Nosotros contamos.” (“We live here. We count.”) captured that spirit of belonging and pride, reframing census participation as an act of visibility and unity rather than obligation.

The design features a sea of people draped in both American and Mexican flags, symbolizing shared identity and cultural duality. A transparent banner overlay evokes the look of a civic document while allowing the energy of the crowd to shine through. The overall tone is one of solidarity and recognition—an affirmation that the Hispanic community is an integral part of America’s story.
